I Am Responsible

Woman:  I think if I had different parents I would have turned out a lot different.

Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth: How much do the actions of other people affect you?

Woman: All of us kids became pretty sarcastic and critical after growing up in that house.

Nancy: One of the most liberating truths I’ve learned is that I’m not responsible for the actions of others—but God does hold me accountable for the way I respond to other people.

You may have no choice about your upbringing or how others treat you. But by God’s grace, you can choose to respond to those circumstances in a godly way.

In Ezekiel’s day, there was an expression that said sons would suffer for their father’s sin. But God said, “When the son has done what is just and right, and has been careful to observe all my statutes, he shall surely live” (18:19).

Ask God to help you take responsibility for your own actions, no matter what others may have done to you.

With Seeking Him, I’m Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth.
