I Have My Rights
Man: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal and that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights . . .
Woman 1: A right to time off and vacation days.
Woman 2: I have a right to get some help around this house!
Woman 3: Oh, I DO have a right to a good night’s sleep.
Woman 4: I have a right to chicken done right!
Man: . . . and the pursuit of happiness.
Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth: From the Constitution to fast food chicken, “I’ve got a right” has become the cry of Western civilization, but successful relationships and healthy cultures aren’t built on the claiming of rights. They’re built on the yielding of rights.
Listen to Philippians 2:4: "Each of you should look not only to your own interests but also to the interests of others.”
When I stake out my rights, even the smallest violation can leave me uptight. The solution is to yield everything to the One who ultimately holds all rights.
With Seeking Him, I’m Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth.
