Long-Suffering Love
Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth: The apostle Paul tells us that true, godly love is patient. Another word for that is long-suffering. Sometimes, in a marriage, a mate is called to suffer long. That’s what my friend, Dorothy, has learned.
Dorothy: When I had been married about twenty years, many people said I should get a divorce. I said, “That's not God's way.” So I went home and I prayed every day. Every morning I said, “Lord, love my husband through me.”
Nancy: The characteristics Paul lists in 1 Corinthians 13 aren’t feelings. He doesn’t tell us to feel patient. He calls us to be patient. I’ve found so many times that when we’re obedient in our actions, the feelings follow.
Dorothy: And you know, it was as if I woke up one morning, and I was in love with him.
