Marriage at the Cross
Man: I thought marriage was supposed to make me happy.
Woman: He doesn’t know the first thing about meeting my needs.
Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth: If either mate wants to make a marriage work, they’ve got to get to the cross.
Leslie: This is Seeking Him with Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth.
Nancy: Philippians 2 tells us that even though Jesus was God, He didn’t cling to His rights as God. Instead, He made Himself of no reputation. He became a servant. He humbled Himself, and He went to the cross—the ultimate picture of selfless love (vv. 5–9).
Jesus calls us to have that same mindset, to say, “I’m willing to die to my own rights and to my own needs.”
That kind of cross-centered, selfless love is required in order for a marriage to last. It requires husbands and wives to focus on how they can give—rather than on how they can get their own needs met.
With Seeking Him, I’m Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth.
