Mary Was a Devoted Woman
Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth: When Jesus was arrested, most of His followers deserted Him. One of the few who followed all the way to the cross was His mother, Mary. She remained His loyal follower even when others fled for their lives.
Things aren’t that much different today than they were during Jesus’ day. A lot of so-called disciples will follow as long as it doesn’t cost them too much. They’ll follow as long as their friends or family do or as long as their needs are being met. They’re willing to follow when it seems to “work.”
But only a few are willing to follow Jesus when it leads to a cross—when things don’t seem to be going the way they had hoped, when following Jesus puts us in contact with people who are hostile to the truth.
Are you a faithful follower of the Lord Jesus? Are you willing to stick with Him in good times and bad times? The example of Mary of Nazareth is a challenge to follow Jesus no matter what.
