Matters of Life and Death

Topics: Holidays

Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth: When Mary and Joseph brought their newborn Son to dedicate Him in the temple, they met an old saint who had been longing for this day. Simeon's prayer is one of the first songs of Christmas.

Simeon: “Lord, now you are letting your servant depart in peace, according to your word.”

Nancy: Simeon was saying he could die now. The Lord had done what He had promised. Having seen his Savior, Simeon could now see death in a whole new light. He was ready to “depart in peace.”

For a believer, death is no monster to be feared, death is release, freedom, passage, home. To live in true reality, for a Christian, is to live with an eagerness and expectancy of finally being home with Christ. The One whose birth we’ve celebrated during this season is both our means of life and our liberation in death.

With Seeking Him, I’m Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth.
