More than Just a Story
Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth: I think to a lot of people, Christmas is about sweet music and cute pictures of a baby. But it’s more than just a nice story about a sweet baby being born in adverse circumstances. It is that, of course, but it’s so much more. The Christmas story centers on a doctrine vital to the Christian faith—the doctrine of the incarnation.
One theologian defines the incarnation this way. He says, “It’s the act of the Son of God whereby He took to Himself a human nature.” Jesus was God in human flesh. That’s the incarnation. The amazing fact that the Son of God was conceived in the womb of the virgin Mary, that God became a man.
So the nice pictures and pretty music only serve to remind us of the incarnation. The God of eternity entered time. The God who is Spirit took on human flesh.
And that’s cause to celebrate!
