Open My Eyes
Woman: Yes, I read the Bible this morning. Don’t ask me what it said, because I don’t remember!
Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth: Do you ever read the Bible just to check another thing off your list? I’ve found one way to understand and apply God’s Word more deeply: I ask God for help.
Before reading the Bible, I like to pray these words from Psalm 119: “Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law.”
When I pray this, I’m asking the Author to help me understand what He means. I’m also making a commitment. I’m saying to the Lord, “Please speak to me. Whatever You say, whether I like it or not, whether it’s easy or hard, whether it fits my preconceived notions, by Your grace and Your power, I will obey.”
Next time you sit down to read your Bible, ask God to open your eyes and to help you understand and apply it.
With Seeking Him, I'm Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth.
