Practical Prayer
Nancy Leigh DeMoss: In 1857, some New York businessmen met on their lunch hour to pray, and soon the nation was experiencing revival, with prayer meetings spreading across the country.
This emphasis on prayer had very practical results, according to Mac Powell.
Mac Powell: Historians describe the next sixty years as the evangelical social awakening where Protestant churches began to be involved in mercy ministry.
Nancy: Organizations like the Salvation Army began doing street ministry. And once the Emancipation Proclamation was given . . .
Mac Powell: . . . a lot of missionaries were involved in teaching freed slaves how to read.
Nancy: There’s a lot of discussion right now about the best way to solve the problems of our nation. We’ll soon be making decisions that will affect the future of our country. The greatest social changes will occur when people's hearts are right with God. So please join me in seeking Him for the revival and spiritual awakening we so desperately need in our day.
With Seeking Him, I’m Nancy Leigh DeMoss.
