Providential Purposes
Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth: It can be a lot easier to forgive when you remember that God has a plan. We see an example of that in the life of Joseph. His brothers sold him into slavery, but in time Joseph was put in charge of all of Egypt, second in command only to Pharaoh.
When his brothers appeared to buy food, Joseph didn’t retaliate. In his position, he could have had those kidnappers killed. But here’s what he said to them: “It wasn’t you who sent me here, but God.” And then he said, “You meant evil against me, but God meant it for good.”
Joseph realized that he was part of God’s plan to alter the history of entire nations. That’s the perspective that kept him from revenge and allowed him to forgive.
Has someone hurt you deeply? God could use that situation to bring Himself great glory and to bring you great joy. Why not start that process by deciding to forgive?
