Real Bondage
Nancy Leigh DeMoss: If you’re looking for freedom in the wrong place, you can end up becoming more and more trapped.
“I turned to other men to make me feel in control and to show my husband that I, and no one else, was in charge of my life. But while I refused to submit to my husband, I was submitting to other men. I wasn’t in control of my body or my life.”
Nancy: In the Old Testament, God’s people also sometimes lost control, as we read in Deuteronomy 28: “Because you did not serve the LORD your God joyfully and gladly in the time of prosperity, therefore in hunger and thirst, in nakedness and dire poverty, you will serve the enemies the LORD sends against you” (vv. 47-48).
Those enemies can take the form of sins like lust, greed, or anger. Do these things control you? Or have you found freedom in surrender?
