Recording a Response
Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth: When you’re convicted of something while reading the Bible, do you remember to follow through?
Woman: At first it really kind of hits me, and then, honestly, a few days later I forget all about it.
Nancy: One thing that I’ve found helpful is to keep a journal and write down the things God shows me through His Word. Recording our responses can help us move past just hearing the Word to doing it.
In Nehemiah 9 we read a long confession by the people of Israel. They had gathered to hear the law read, and they realized they needed some changes.
Their prayer concludes, “In view of all this we are making a binding agreement.” They put it in writing. They wanted to remember and be held accountable for the changes they needed to make.
The next time you sit down to read the Bible, why don’t you grab a notebook and pen and jot down what God says to you through His Word? It’ll make it easier to follow through with what you read.
With Seeking Him, I’m Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth.
