Resolved to Glorify God
Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth: People make all kinds of resolutions.
Man 1: Not to eat so much.
Woman: Give up chocolate for a year.
Man 2: I don’t do New Year’s resolutions. I’m like anti-establishment on New Year’s resolutions.
Nancy: But if our resolutions aren’t centered on God’s glory, then ultimately, they won’t do much good.
Jonathan Edwards: Resolved never to do any manner of thing, whether in soul or body, but what tends to the glory of God.
Nancy: As a teen, Jonathan Edwards made 70 resolutions for his life, and as you read them, you see that he had one supreme purpose. He existed for the glory of God.
Jonathan Edwards: Resolved that I will do whatever I think to be most to the glory of God, and resolved to do so whatever difficulties I meet with, no matter how many or how great those difficulties.
Nancy: Do your resolutions reflect a desire for God’s glory more than anything else?
