Resolved to Grow
Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth: When we’re in the season for making New Year’s resolutions, I think about young Jonathan Edwards. Around 1722, by the age of twenty, he wrote down seventy resolutions like this one.
Jonathan Edwards: Resolved to study the Scriptures so steadily, constantly, and frequently that I may find myself to grow in the knowledge of the same.
Nancy: Edwards wanted to live a life of growth. He didn’t want to stay where he was spiritually—at the status quo. He wanted to seek new heights in his relationship with Christ.
Jonathan Edwards: Resolved to strive to my utmost every week to be brought to a higher exercise of grace than I was the week before.
Nancy: That sure is a challenge to me. Am I closer to God this week than I was last week? Am I closer to God now than I was this time a year ago? What choices can I make today that will help me be closer to the Lord one year from now?
With Seeking Him, I’m Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth.
