Sitting at the Feet of Jesus
Woman: Well, at my house growing up, everybody was always busy doing something. So sitting down to read was kind of considered . . . lazy. Now that I’m grown up, when I read the Bible, I just feel guilty, like I should be doing something.
Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth: Working hard to serve the Lord and others is a good thing, but we can do our work more effectively once we’ve spent time with Christ. In Luke 10 we see that Mary made a conscious choice. Her sister, Martha, was busy in the kitchen, but Mary decided to cultivate her relationship with Jesus. And in response Jesus said, “Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
We can make the same choice as Mary by spending time in prayer and His Word—even when there are other good things demanding our attention. It’s a choice to put Him first, above all other tasks. Have you made that choice today?
