This Is a Test

Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth: When you were in school, your teachers probably gave you some pop quizzes. And then there were those midterms and final exams. The teacher wanted to show whether you’d learned the material.

God gives us tests as well. In the Old Testament, we read that He led his people into the desert. He said, “In this way I will test them and see whether they will follow my instructions” (Ex. 16:4).

God knows everything, of course, but He will sometimes test you.

First, He wants to show us what’s really in your heart. He also wants to find out whether you’ll be obedient. Finally, He shows whether you really trust Him. You’ll never know the answers to these questions until you go through seasons of testing—desert experiences.

Maybe you’re in a difficult situation right now. Ask God to reveal your heart through this situation. At the right time, He’ll lead you out.
