Unexpected Blessing
Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth: In one of the first songs of Christmas found in Luke chapter 1, the older Elizabeth blessed the younger woman Mary with these words:
Elizabeth: “Blessed is she who has believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord.”
Nancy: Think about it. Mary was arguably in the most difficult circumstance. She had no way of proving she hadn’t been immoral. She could be stoned. So, by surrendering to God’s purpose, she was really saying, “I’m willing to give up my life to do what He says.”
To this woman, Elizabeth said that God would bless her with full satisfaction in Him because she believed His word. How much do you think Mary needed to hear that?
And so do we . . . because joy and blessing, satisfaction and fullness, come from believing what God has said.
