Wait and See
Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth: Mary, the mother of Jesus, knew that God is sovereign. In one of the very first songs of Christmas, in Luke chapter 1, she said:
Mary: “He has shown strength with his arm . . . he has brought down the mighty from their thrones and exalted those of humble estate.”
Nancy: Mary was about to witness God’s sovereignty on display. She was from small-town Galilee, but God orchestrated events and the decree of Caesar Augustus, and Jesus was born in Bethlehem, just as God had foretold.
When you feel as though your situation is out of control, remember the contrast between Caesar, the most powerful leader in the world, and Mary and Joseph, two nobodies. And, like Mary, wait. It won’t be long before you see the mighty brought down . . . and “those of humble estate” exalted.
