What Is a Saint?
Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth: Who do you think is qualified to be a saint?
Woman: Someone who acts really holy all the time.
Man 1: They’re really good people.
Man 2: They can’t do anything fun.
Man 3: All I know about 'saints' is the football team!
Nancy: The apostle Paul didn’t reserve the word saint to describe someone who was unusually holy. In many of his letters, he addressed all believers as saints.
And a lot of the people he was writing to were acting like anything but saints. I mean, they were guilty of being divisive, bitter, immoral, and selfish, but Paul called them saints—because they were.
Their sinful hearts had been washed by the blood of Jesus. So in effect he was saying, “Because you are saints, live like saints.”
If you’re a child of God, did you know that you’re a saint? So the question is, are you living like a saint—actively pursuing holiness and growing into the image of Christ?
