Where Do We Run?

Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth: There are lots of oppressors and tyrants in our world— maybe even in your life. Those kinds of people make us want to run and hide. That’s how the writer of Psalm 11 felt when he said he wanted to “flee like a bird” to his mountain. “For look," he said, "the wicked bend their bows; they set their arrows against the strings to shoot at the upright in heart.”

But verse 4 tells us, “The Lord is on His heavenly throne. He observes the sons of men, his eyes examine them.” The psalm goes on to talk about the judgment of God.

Listen. It’s right to want God to step in and judge evil. But when we really think about it, we all deserve judgment. We all need Jesus.

So if you’re the victim of someone else’s oppression, don’t run and hide. Talk with wise counselors, engage civil authorities where appropriate, but through it all, keep your eyes fixed on the One who is on His heavenly throne. Run to Jesus!
