With Wisdom
Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth: Some of us speak more than others. But we all use words. We greet, we express, we compliment, we respond, we mock, we tear down—all with words. Have you ever thought about how much the Bible has to say about the way we use words?
Woman: She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue (Proverbs 31:26).
Nancy: Do you speak wise words? Do they point people to the Word and ways of God? Or are you quick to shoot off your own opinion?
Woman: When words are many, transgression is not lacking. But whoever restrains his lips is prudent (Proverbs 10:19).
Nancy: Do you talk too much, or do you restrain your tongue?
Woman: A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger (Proverbs 15:1).
Nancy: When you’re provoked, do you respond in gentleness, or do you come back with harsh words?
Take a minute and ask God to control your tongue today. Ask Him to help you speak with wisdom, restraint, and gentleness.
