Have My Heart
Claire Black: This is True Girl, a podcast for girls and their moms. Together, we’ll explore God’s truth for us one track at a time.
This season, we’ve been introducing some of the new tunes that we know you’ll want to add to your playlist. But you can be sure these aren’t just any tunes. Each song was carefully written by our own team and some friends in Nashville to share super important biblical truth with you.
That truth is that we are supposed to be different. Don’t like that idea? I hope Dannah Gresh and Staci Rudolph will change your mind! They’re here for episode 5, called, “Have My Heart!” Here’s Dannah.
Dannah Gresh: Thanks, Dave! We’re just gonna take a little hike. Be back soon.
Wow. This view takes my breath away every time.

Staci Rudolph: Mine too. I can’t believe we finally made it to the Grand Canyon!
Dannah: Yes, it’s hands down the favorite “day off” spot for the True Girl tour team every year!
Staci: And you can see why. We’ve seen so much along the way, but this is by far the most beautiful stop yet. I think so much clearer whenever I’m here.
Dannah: Me, too, Staci. Staring into this huge canyon reminds me just how big God is. It just makes my heart want to worship Him.
Staci: Mine, too. Hey, we should start our day with worship. I brought my bluetooth speaker. A DJ is always ready.
Dannah: Love that, Staci.
Staci: I have just the song, but first, can I start with a verse.
Dannah: I’m never gonna say no to the Bible.
Staci: I don’t even need a Bible today. I know this one from memory. This is Luke 10:27:
“You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.” And, “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
Dannah: I love that so much. Love Him with all your heart, soul, and strength!
Staci: And there’s a Psalm that helps me when my heart wanders, like when I want to pursue things other than God. It says if I delight myself in God, He will give me the desires of my heart.
Dannah: How do you delight in God?
Staci: Well, I think you do things that help you enjoy God—like hiking the Grand Canyon helps me realize, like you said, God is so big! I mean, He made this thing.
Dannah: Yes, but you could also hike your backyard! You don’t have to get in a tour bus. Just walking where there’s a sunset can make your heart remember that God made this, and we delight in Him.
You know what I like to do, Staci, when I walk? I like to memorize Bible verses.
Staci: That’s another way to “delight.” Oh, I know, I like to sing worship songs. That’s how I delight sometimes.
Dannah: Good one! Ya know, one time I was on tour and I wanted to go to get a pizza so bad, Staci, and then go get a manicure. I don’t know why those two things are what I wanted. But I stayed in my hotel room and worshiped and read my Bible, and I “delighted” in God. And Staci, do you know that I never left that hotel room until I had to? My desires changed. I didn’t want a pizza; I didn’t want a manicure. I just wanted to be with God. God got my heart that day. It was awesome!
Staci: That is awesome! You gave Him your heart that day in the way God needed you to. You set aside your desires. Sometimes I like to delight in God when I put a good slice of pizza in my mouth. I say, “Yum! Thank you, God!”
Dannah: Yep, that’s true! It’s all about giving Him our hearts. I’m not giving the Grand Canyon my heart or the pizza my heart. He made those things. They are gifts from Him. We just want to keep that in perspective.
Staci: Amen. And that reminds me of the next song on the playlist. Here it is: “Have My Heart!”
Song: “Have My Heart!”
How great is your love,
Lord, I sing You praise.
No one can compare,
There's no other name.My soul cries out.
Lord, I need you now.I give You my heart,
I lift up my hands.
Jesus, I come just as I am,
I dance with my feet,
I run to Your arms.
Sing with my voice how great You are,
Jesus You can have my heart.Your goodness is a fire,
It can't be contained.
Lord, open my eyes
So I can see Your face.My soul cries out,
Lord, I need you now.I give You my heart,
I lift up my hands.
Jesus, I come just as I am,
I dance with my feet,
I run to Your arms.
Sing with my voice how great You are,
Jesus you can have my heart.I give You everything,
You are all I need.
All I wanna do is
Thank You,
Glorify Your name.
Get lost in praise,
You’re good,
So I will trust You.Give You my heart,
Lift up my hands.
Jesus, I come just as I am,
I dance with my feet,
Run to Your arms.
Sing with my voice how great You are,
Jesus You can have my heart.Give You my heart,
Lift up my hands,
Jesus, I come just as I am.
Claire: Right now, that song—"Have My Heart”—is the song the True Girl worship team sings as they give moms and daughters time to consider if they will surrender their hearts to Jesus. Girls do that at each event. In fact, since True Girl started twenty years ago, more than 16,000 girls have chosen to follow Jesus with their lives, to give Him their hearts.
Have you done that yet? If not, or if you’re not sure, talk to your mom about that today. Jesus wants you to love the Lord with all your heart and soul and strength. There’s no more important decision you can make than giving Jesus your heart!
The True Girl podcast is produced by Revive Our Hearts, calling women of all ages to freedom, fullness, and fruitfulness in Christ!
“Have My Heart” lyrics and music by Carmen Hadley and David Thulin.
